I am a reliable, team player with the education
and experience needed to work well with kids who have
special needs. I am kind and intuitive with over 15 years in
nursing and many years in the school district( and other work
places )with direct experience with special needs children.
I am a classroom asst. in grades pre K-12. Most of my time is spent as a special ed. asst .I work in the classroom as needed but often I am on a 'one to one' with a student who has special needs. I follow him/her during their day, intervening as often as needed according to their IEP. I have followed a student for as long as 2 months, another for a couple of days, according to their needs. Behavioural interventions are most often required, but also help with school work, social interactions, and following school rules, etc. Documentation and follow up with parents and teachers daily is also required.
I used a new curriculum implemented in the elementary school reading intervention program for at risk children, grades k-2.
This program utilized 3 'CCA's' running 5 groups of 4-5 kids per day. Each group was taught a reading, phonics, and writing lesson according to ability level. Each child had been identified as at risk or reading below grade level by standardized tests at the beginning of each year. The curriculum used auditory, visual and kinesthetic materials to enhance learning.
