The Appraisal Unit insures the determination of fair market values, through appraisals, for all lands being acquired as rights of way for all highway projects. Staff Appraisers, Review Appraisers and Fee Appraisers throughout the five Area Appraisal offices perform this task. The State Appraiser insures all right of way schedules are met with respect to appraisal activities, examines appraisals on claims presented to Review Board, contracts the services of capable, qualified fee appraisers, provides estimates for future projects and insures all appraisals are reviewed for accuracy and compliance with USPAP, state and federal laws, FHWA and NCDOT policies. The State Appraiser must approve all appraisals over $1,000,000.

Area Appraiser, 08/2010 to 04/2014
NCDOT – Charlotte, NC
The Area Appraiser insures that all appraisal activities within a geographical region are performed in a timely manner to meet project schedules. Appraisals must comply with USPAP, state and federal laws, FHWA and NCDOT policies. I supervise and train the review and staff appraisers along with administrative staff. Fee appraisers are developed with the assistance of the review appraiser. The Area Appraiser has approval authority up to $1,000,000.

The Review Appraiser reviews all appraisals for compliance with USPAP, state and federal laws, FHWA and NCDOT policies. The Reveiw Appraiser assists the Area Appraiser with training and scheduling to meet project deadlines. Review Appraiser has approval authority up to $500,000.
