    • Strategic Planning- responsible for strategic planning for the Transfusion Services (TS).  The laboratory strategic plan both influenced and was influenced by the TS strategic plan, therefore all section managers sat on numerous other strategic planning teams. 
    • Budgetary and Financial-  responsible for preparation of annual Transfusion Service operating and capital budget for 2 Transfusion Service locations with a total of approximately a $12-15 million dollar annual operating budget.  Responsible for administration of both the operating and capital budgets with monthly reconciliation and explanation of variances.
    • Personnel-  managed staff of 21 FTEs 
    • Project planning- examples of projects initiated, planned and successfully executed include:  TEG Analyzer, purchase of new blood irradiator and decommission of old irradiator, concurrent computer data entry (no more manual logs) and maintenance of a thawed plasma and an irradiated RBC/platelet inventory for faster TAT.  Key team member on project team for free standing Emergency Facility in nearby city.

    Select Accomplishments:

    • Initiated and implemented a change of product of choice for neonatal/pediatric cardiovascular surgery from fresh whole blood to donor matched RBCs/FFP resulting in cost savings for both the hospital and the blood supplier without compromising patient care.
    • Introduced the Thromoelastograph to the medical community at Methodist Hospital, and Methodist Specialty and Transplant.  The technology was brought in with the education and training coordinated through the Transfusion Service.  The TEG analyzer was used to support the heart & lung transplant programs.  It later was introduced into both the adult and pediatric hematology/oncology programs.  Cardiovascular surgeries saw an approximately 30% reduction in blood component usage.  There was an increase in the number of liver transplants on Jehovah Witness patient's performed once the surgeons become comfortable with the technology.
