Getting your foot in the door can be difficult for any field of work. If you are interested in becoming a production assistant, you will need a great cover letter and resume. Luckily, many resume templates can help you organize your perfect production assistant resume!
There are a lot of things you want to include in a resume to stand out to potential employers during your job search. This production assistant resume sample and writing tips will help you understand what you need to include in your resume to get the production assistant job!
Build my resumeYour resume should let a hiring manager or recruiters know about the skills and experiences you have that directly relate to the production assistant job you want. Here are the sections you should be sure to include in your resume.
The header of your resume will feature your contact information, including your name and your email or phone number to contact you.
Provide a personal statement (about 2-3 sentences) that conveys your top skills and experiences. Think of this section as an “elevator pitch” in which you tell employers about why you’re the right person for the job.
Here, you want to highlight your specific skillset that will prepare you for the job. For a production assistant resume, include relevant skills that are related to the job. For example, if the job lists the ability to work a teleprompter or use Final Cut Pro as prerequisites, include them here if you have them! You can also list soft skills, skills that are useful in any scenario, such as having great communication skills and time management skills.
This section is where you will list your relevant work experience, which can be anything related to TV production, such as being a tv production assistant or interning for a production company or production office. If you lack full-time professional experience, you can feature other activities. If you ran errands for a production manager in college in Los Angeles for a summer, include that! This section will be in reverse chronological order, meaning your most recent experiences will be on the top of the section.
For this section, you can list your degree or certifications and where you received them from. For example, if you have a bachelor of arts in media production from New York University, list that. You can also list your GPA if it is notable; however, it’s better to list specific academic achievements and awards instead of your GPA

Production assistant skills can include hard skills like using a teleprompter, writing scripts, and having knowledge of software like Photoshop or Final Cut Pro. Social media content creation can also be helpful. If you’ve worked on a movie or tv set or interned for a company that works with production, you likely have many skills that will qualify as production assistant skills.
Be sure to list soft skills (personal traits and intangible skills) as well. If you are very organized, are good at public speaking, for example, you can include those skills in your resume.
Another skill you can list is language skills. If you speak more than one language, definitely include that in your skills! This can be very valuable for production studios or for any job you may apply to.
If you are creating your resume for a production assistant job, you may have more experience than you realize. For example, if you interned with a production company, you should mention highlights from that experience. Did you get to sit in on production meetings with the production staff or learn about the production process from professionals? You can also list any volunteer experiences you’ve had within the television production, film production, or media field.
If you have experience that may not seem to be a natural fit, you can still find skills that fit the job description. Did you do video editing for social media for a marketing firm? Did you use Photoshop for a summer internship?
You may want to use an objective instead of a summary at the top of your resume. For a production assistant resume objective, state the reasons you are looking for a job in this field. Say why it is important to you to work in production. Also feature top skills or experiences that back up that claim.
Remember, a resume objective should only be about 2-3 sentences. Do not overthink it, as you will also have a chance to elaborate your goals and passions in your cover letter.
