Physician Office Assistant
Pikeville Medical Center
As an office assistant I would check-in and check-out patients on a daily basis. This position required me to take co-pays at time of visit, put ICDE-9 coding charges into the system, call new patients for the next business day, call patients that were not able to make their appointment, schedule apts for patients, answer all phone calls, give messages to the Medical Assistant and APRN, General housekeeping, pull medical records, use the fax machine, sort patients charts, and any other tasks that were needed for me to do that day. Being an office assistant you have to work with insurance companies, to verify eligibility. I have to put in the computer system their insurance card and their ID number. I have to understand which insurance in primary and secondary. As an office assistant you play your role as a secretary. I go above and beyond what is needed, and give my 110% in my job.

At times I evaluated and accessed children to identify their proper referral level for the skills they needed to their ensure their daily activities were planned accordingly. During my work at the childcare, I had duties that required me to work with social workers, in understanding when the child left to go with the social worker, and when the child would return. I needed to know exactly what children would be leaving with the social worker, and exactly what days.
My administrative duties were to answer the telephones and to meet and greet each child daily, and respond to the inquiries being made by parents, or government agencies.
