learned to drive a farm tractor a age 7
by age 9, I was in the field 12 hours a day on an old 4020 John Deere behind the planter on the spray rig 12 hours a day during planting season.
After planting season we would sale prep yearlings for the fall sales.
another job was " chipping bricks" cleaning antique bricks of the mortar that was hauled in by the truck load. for a whopping penny a brick!
another job was wood chunking. Before the days of wetland preservation. They cleared 800 acres of woodland, which included ridges and bottoms. Our job for three years was to walk the 800 acres. Following a tractor pulling a trailer and throw the wood ,that the bull dozer missed with its blade, onto the trailer. We would fill the trailer by the end of one pass through the field. At the other end we would unload the wood. At days end we would burn the piles of wood. It looked like being in Lutcher on Christmas Eve with all the bon fires burning at night.
We continued the older we got with planting and cultivating 5000 acres of soybeans each summer and sale prepping horses for the fall sales.
Operations continue to this day under Jumonville Farm, LLC.
