Inpt Benefits & Precertification Specialist Sep 1980Present Shared Service Center of Ft Smith-CHS Fort Smith, ar Gather Insurance info from accts of pt's that have been admitted to the hospital as inpt or observation. Call ins comapanies to verify coverage is active and obain authorization phone number to authorize inpt stay. Close monitoring of observation admits to see if there status changes to Inpt at which point additional follow up is neeed. Close monitoring of Medicare and Medicaid accts for accurate length of stay days remaining. Work off spreadsheets for accts that ins may have been added to that need verfification. Sometimes search pt's records for additional information that may be needed to verify insurance information. Maintain daily contact with case mamgers at the facility to notify them of any changes or deletion of pt's insurance so that pt may be contacted regarding payment arrangements. Communication with Insurance Companies, case managers, and patients is a key factor in the job.

Close reviewing of pt's records to interpert doctors orders and document items ordered such as medications with the frequency of dosage. Order testing in departments that the Dr has documented that pt should have. Documentation of pt's viatal signs, Intake and Output. Ordering of pt's dietary trays as requested by Dr. Order up pt's medical records as requested. Confindentiality of utmost importance. Travel from department to department if needed to obtain equipment or supplies that has been ordered for the patient. Close working relationship with the nurses, docotrs and other staff on the unit is a must.

  • Compile and record medical charts, reports, or correspondence, using typewriter or personal computer.
