Professional Summary:
Please accept this position-specific edition of my resume in application for the Prevention Specialist. I am a seasoned social worker/teacher with over 35 years of experience in the service oriented areas of mental health, child development, substance abuse, counseling and crisis management. My core competencies include problem identification, group development and presentation, documentation skills, familiarity with child development theories and substance abuse issues. I retired from service from the Commonwealth in 2008 and I moved to Hanover 4 years ago to help with twin grandchildren.  I have been involved in local church and community volunteer projects and would like to use my skills where they can make the most valued impact.
Skills:

I have worked with children of all ages, including owning and operating a day care and preschool program for special needs children;  was Director of the Beaufort County Developmental Center in Washington, NC where I developed and implemented the token economy behavior modification program and performed mental health evaluations and developed the treatment plan protocol.  I also taught at Nash County Community College and Hampton University and lead ASAP  groups.   

I was a CSAC for 15 years and developed and presented individual treatment plans and group programs and I developed and have maintained group material. I understand the importance of accurate information collection and presentation.   I completed child development classes at East Carolina University and over 250 hours of ongoing training at Eastern State Hospital, and was a certified MANDT trainer.  

I have attended and taught parenting classes and recently attended several Family Anonymous meetings to understand family perspective on substance abuse issues. 

Experience:
Foster Care/Adoption Social Worker Aug 2005Nov 2008 Louisa County Department of Social Services Louisa, VA Responsibility for caseload of up to 25 children and their families which included:
- investigate CPS referrals, gather, document family history and information, prepare case studies and case plans for court action, place children with appropriate foster families or programs as needed for special needs children; counsel children and parents according to their circumstances and case plans' attend and present cases in JDR Court, attend treatment team meetings at CSB and IEP meetings at schools, residential facilities and Juvenile Justice programs, interface with law enforcement and other state agencies as appropriate. 
- perform and document drug screens on clients as required by case plans and referral to substance abuse, mental health programs as indicated by history and current needs. 
- on call services to perform CPS duties for families children after investigating circumstances.
- preparation of adoption documents per state policy and follow through with adoption from foster care placements. 
Clinical Social Worker, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor Nov 1999Jul 2005 Eastern State Hospital Williamsburg, VA Responsibilities included:
- preparation of social histories, treatment plans, family contact and counseling, preparation and presentation of individual and group counseling programs.
- discharge planning and coordination with outpatient services through  regional community service boards, identification of appropriate housing, preparation of Medicaid Waiver documents/applications, SSI, SSDI applications, VA referrals and attendance at detention hearings as needed.
- substance abuse counseling. 
I worked in the admissions unit, the substance abuse program the MR to close both programs, the continuing rehabilitation unit and the long term and nursing home programs. 
Crisis Counselor Nov 1992Jul 2005 Hampton Newport News Community Services Board Newport News, VA - Weekend/ Holiday part time crisis counselor 
Responsibilities included:
- worked independently to respond to police requests for mental health evaluations, requests from magistrate and jail personnel for counseling or evaluations, requests from families and area hospitals for mental health evaluations sand assistance.  Made evaluations and diagnoses, sought Temporary Detention Orders when needed and arranged transport to appropriate facility, which generally was Peninsula Hospital and on occasion other facilities or Eastern State when needed. 
Education:
Master of Arts : Sociology May 1979 College of William and Mary Williamsburg, VA Completed the graduate program in Sociology from 1976 to 1978 including final exams and oral examinations but did not graduate.
Bachelor of Arts : Sociology, Communications May 1976 Christopher Newport University Newport News, VA I completed an AA and BA degree from in 3 years and was active in campus activities including drama, chorus, history club, writer for the campus newspaper and fundraisers. Accepted scholarship for graduate school at W&M.
Community Service:
Volunteer with Southeastern Correctional Ministry which provided ministry services at the juvenile detention facility in Williamsburg.
Volunteer with Rural Point Association, assisting with restoration of the Shelton Home, which was donated to the National Park Service and is an important landmark.  I recently completed volunteer training and federal application which included fingerprint and background check and I worked with archeologists in performing ground radar and sonar testing.
