Drive the fire apparatus to the scene of an emergency and to operate and care for the equipment and apparatus.  This is accomplished by checking the equipment, answering calls assigned to unit, learning the assigned fire district, operating the equipment on the fire apparatus to assist in fire suppression activities, and maintaining the equipment to ensure proper operation.  Other duties include assignments for specialized fire suppression/rescue functions such as mobile support, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, swift water rescue, and technical safety officer.

 Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provides EMS as a first-responder by obtaining Emergency Medical Technician certification; maintains the required education/training; maintains EMS equipment and supplies; and responds to emergency medical incidents as the first-responder to provide emergency medical care.
  • Maintains reports and documents by completing incident reports; prepares monthly documentation; and completes daily log documents (rosters, SCBA log, etc.)
  • Provides fire suppression and protection by responding to and mitigating fire incidents; monitors apparatus placement and equipment during emergency incidents; maintains fire suppression equipment and apparatus; maintains education/training and firefighting certification; and acts as company officer on assigned basis.
  • In association with specialized technical assignments, assists in planning real-life incidents and developing drills; investigates potential areas where specialized technical rescues may be required; carries out drills and practices; maintains specialized equipment; maintains required technical certifications. Maintains exterior and interior of fire facilities by picking up and removing litter; cleans the fire station; mows the lawns; and trims the shrubs.
