To enhance public safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Department of Corrections staff and offenders by meeting re-entry objectives and by providing effective security, programming, custody and control of adult male offenders. Monitors the grievance procedure in its entirety (informal complaints, emergency grievances, and regular grievances) to ensure compliance with DOC policy. Conducts investigations of inmate grievances. Consults with staff and offenders to resolve problems/issues and to investigate claims. Coordinates access to the Law Library and the Institutional Attorney. Meets with offenders as needed. Prepares responses for correspondence as required by the Operations Manager.
Provides first line supervision to Corrections Officers and Corrections Officer Trainees in an institutional setting. Supervises and monitors staff on assigned shift to ensure a safe and secure environment. Communicates with management, staff, visitors, offenders and the public. Leads and counsels staff. Completes required training. Maintains a safe and productive workforce. Serve as a Positive Role Model to offenders and staff. Demonstrate effective communication skills and utilize motivational interviewing through evidence based practices. Walk the pod, engage population and interrupt criminal logic. Watch officer duties as far as post assignments, running over time reports, adjustment of officer timing and roaster management . Also attending multi disciplinary meetings.
Contributes to the prison public safety mission by supervising offenders in an institutional setting. Provides security over adult offenders at the institution and while in transport; supervises the daily activities of offenders while observing and recording their behavior and movement to ensure their safe and secure confinement. Serve as a Positive Role Model to offenders and staff. Demonstrate effective communication skills and utilize motivational interviewing through evidence based practices. Walk the pod, engage population and interrupt criminal logic Facilitate Groups (T4C, PREPS, PREA, Resources for Successful Living, etc.)Develop Seminars and facilitate on pod floor. Facilitate Cognitive Community Orientation along with new intakes orientation. Assist with home plans. Ensure bed compliance is managed and pod sanitation is high. Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings and other CC related meetings. Work closely with Counselors and CC Staff to ensure a continuum of care is established for offenders as they work through the transition process.

To assist psychiatric patients in a variety of activities and work in a Forensic Environment. Patients admitted to this unit are court ordered from the Criminal Justice System and are placed here for psychiatric evaluation and/or treatment. I worked work directly with patients to achieve therapeutic goals through activities of daily living, attend to patients' problems and concerns, encourage patients in activities, provide intervention for behavior problems and crisis situations, and promote patients' awareness and coping skills to deal with realities of judicial controls. Working with patients that may become verbally and/or physically aggressive. Understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per hospital policy and to successfully avoid the use of seclusion and restraint, whenever possible.
Prepare, compile and sort documents for data entry check source documents for accuracy. Verify data and correct data where necessary. Obtain further information for incomplete documents. Update data and delete unnecessary files and combine and rearrange data from source documents where required. Enter data from source documents into prescribed computer database, files and forms. Transcribe information into required electronic format. Scan documents into document management systems or databases. Check completed work for accuracy and store completed documents in designated locations. Respond to requests for information and access relevant files. Print information when required. Comply with data integrity and security policies and maintain own office equipment and stationery supplies. Greeting vistors and answering incoming phone calls.
