  • Observe or examine patients to detect symptoms that may require medical attention, such as bruises, open wounds, or blood in urine.
  • Document or otherwise report observations of patient behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
  • Exercise patients who are comatose, paralyzed, or have restricted mobility.
  • Feed patients or assist patients to eat or drink.
  • Supply, collect, or empty bedpans.
  • Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance or social and emotional support.
  • Undress, wash, and dress patients who are unable to do so for themselves.
  • Record height or weight of patients.
  • Collect specimens, such as urine, feces, or sputum.
  • Supervise other CNA's to make sure all assignments are completed as required.
  • Prepare documents daily ( I&O, Safety check, bladder and bowel pattern sheets)  as well as monthly documents (ADL flow sheets, correction sheets, bowel records, behavior ect.)
  • Review ADL records to be sure all paperwork is being recorded properly and documented at the end of every shift.
